Harvey AI Integrates Google and Anthropic AI Models

Legal AI platform Harvey is expanding its capabilities by incorporating foundation models from Google and Anthropic, alongside its existing use of OpenAI technology. This move marks a significant development, as Harvey is a prominent portfolio company of the OpenAI Startup Fund.

While Harvey confirms its continued use of OpenAI, the integration of Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro and Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet provides access to a broader range of AI models and cloud platforms. This strategic decision stems from Harvey's internal benchmarking, which revealed the increasing proficiency of various foundation models in handling diverse legal tasks.

Harvey's BigLaw Benchmark Drives Model Diversification

Harvey's internal benchmark, known as BigLaw, demonstrated that different models excel in specific legal areas. For example, Google's Gemini reportedly excels at legal drafting, while OpenAI's model performs well in pre-trial tasks like crafting oral arguments. Anthropic's Claude also showed strong performance in pre-trial tasks. This finding led Harvey to adopt a multi-model approach, leveraging the strengths of each for optimal performance.

Rather than focusing on model training, Harvey will fine-tune existing high-performing models for the legal market. This approach allows them to capitalize on the advancements made by leading AI developers.

This expansion also supports Harvey's development of AI agents and contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of model capabilities in the legal field. Harvey plans to share a public leaderboard ranking the performance of major reasoning models on legal tasks, providing valuable insights to the legal tech community.

A Strategic Move for Enhanced Legal AI

Harvey's adoption of Google and Anthropic models signifies a shift towards diversifying AI resources within the legal tech sector. This move positions Harvey to offer enhanced services and cater to the evolving needs of its clients. Despite this expansion, Harvey CEO Winston Weinberg reaffirmed the company's strong relationship with OpenAI, emphasizing their continued collaboration and OpenAI's role as a key investor.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have OpenAI as an investor in Harvey and key collaborator in our product,” stated Harvey CEO Winston Weinberg. “And, we are energized to add to our options for customers as we continue to serve the needs of our customers globally.”

This strategic integration of diverse AI models underscores Harvey's commitment to innovation and its pursuit of providing cutting-edge legal AI solutions.
