Amazon Building AI-Powered Code Generation Tool "Kiro"

Amazon Web Services is developing a new AI code generation tool, codenamed "Kiro," according to a Business Insider report citing internal documents. This tool promises to significantly accelerate software development by leveraging AI agents.

Kiro reportedly generates code in near real-time based on user prompts and existing data. It offers both web and desktop applications and boasts multimodal capabilities. The tool can also integrate with third-party AI agents for enhanced flexibility.

Beyond code generation, Kiro can create technical design documents, identify potential issues, and optimize existing code, further streamlining the development process.

Kiro Joins Amazon's Growing AI Toolset

This new tool complements Amazon's existing AI coding assistant, Q Developer, which is similar to GitHub Copilot. While a potential June launch was considered, Business Insider reports that the timeline may have shifted.

The development of Kiro highlights the growing interest in AI-powered coding tools. Companies like Cursor maker Anysphere and Windsurf (reportedly nearing acquisition by OpenAI) demonstrate the increasing investment and competition in this rapidly evolving field.
