Amazon Prime Day Returns in July Amid Tariff Concerns
Amazon's annual Prime Day sales event is scheduled for July 2025. However, this year's event faces potential headwinds from increasing tariffs on goods.
Reports suggest that Amazon considered displaying the cost of tariffs alongside product prices. This move drew criticism from the White House, which called it a "hostile and political act." White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt encouraged Americans to "buy American."
Amazon clarified that displaying tariff costs was only considered for its low-cost Amazon Haul store, not its main site. The company has not implemented this feature on any platform.
Amazon statement: “The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered listing import charges on certain products. This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties.”
The impact of tariffs on Prime Day sales remains uncertain. Some sellers have reportedly withdrawn from the event or reduced discounted inventory due to tariff pressures.
Prime Day Boosts Sales, Supports Small Businesses
Prime Day traditionally boosts Amazon's sales during a typically slower period. The event offers discounts on Amazon's products and those from third-party sellers. Small and medium-sized businesses account for over 60% of sales on Amazon, selling over 200 million items during last year's Prime Day.
This year's Prime Day will feature deals across over 35 categories, including electronics, kitchen, beauty, and apparel. Amazon promises "socially trending items" and "creator favorites," along with exclusive products. The event will expand to Ireland for the first time and return to numerous other global markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and several countries in Europe, Asia, and South America.
Amazon Launches Luxury Goods Selection Curated by Saks
Amazon also launched a new luxury goods section curated by Saks. This addition to Amazon's Luxury Stores features brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Etro, Stella McCartney, and more. U.S. customers can access the collection on amazon.com/saks and the Amazon Shopping app.
