Google Expands AI Mode Access and Features

Google is broadening access to its experimental AI Mode in Search, allowing users to ask complex, multi-part questions and delve deeper into topics. The feature, previously on a waitlist, is now available to all US users over 18 enrolled in Google Labs.

This expansion aims to compete with services like Perplexity AI and ChatGPT Search. Google is also testing an AI Mode tab within Search for a small percentage of US users, potentially bringing AI-powered search to a wider audience soon.

Enhanced Functionality for a Smarter Search

Beyond complex questions, AI Mode now helps users discover places and products more effectively. Visual cards provide details on restaurants, shops, and products, including ratings, reviews, real-time prices, promotions, shipping details, and local inventory.

For example, searching for "best vintage shops with mid-century modern furniture" will highlight nearby stores, show real-time information like how busy they are, and offer quick access to directions or calling.

Planning a camping trip? A search like "best foldable camping chair under $100 for a backpack" will provide a breakdown of recommended products with details and retailer links.

Resume Your Search Seamlessly

Google has also added a feature to resume previous AI Mode searches. A new left-side panel on desktop allows users to access past searches, review previous information, and ask follow-up questions, streamlining longer research tasks.

These updates represent Google's continued investment in AI-powered search, offering users a more intuitive and informative experience. By expanding access and adding practical features, Google aims to make AI Mode an integral part of how people search and discover information online.
