May Mobility Robotaxis Coming to Uber in Texas
May Mobility and Uber have partnered to bring autonomous robotaxis to Arlington, Texas, by the end of 2025. This multi-year agreement marks a significant expansion for May Mobility, moving beyond its current focus on shuttles for campuses and planned communities.
Expanding Autonomous Ride-Hailing Options
This partnership adds May Mobility to Uber's growing network of autonomous vehicle collaborators. Uber already offers Waymo robotaxis in Phoenix and Austin, with plans to expand to Atlanta. This move places Uber in direct competition with Lyft, which also recently announced a partnership with May Mobility for autonomous ride-hailing services in Atlanta.
In Arlington, riders using the Uber app will have the option to select a May Mobility autonomous vehicle. These vehicles are hybrid Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS models equipped with May Mobility's self-driving technology.
From Human-Operated to Driverless
Initially, the robotaxis will operate with human safety operators behind the wheel. The program will then transition to fully driverless operation. Following the launch in Arlington, Uber and May Mobility plan to expand to other U.S. markets in 2026, with the goal of deploying thousands of autonomous vehicles in the coming years.
May Mobility's Expanding Footprint
May Mobility currently provides on-demand autonomous microtransit services, primarily in small-scale, low-speed environments like campuses and predefined zones. The company has piloted its technology in several locations across the U.S., including Arlington, Texas; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Peachtree Corners, Georgia; Miami, Florida; and Sun City, Arizona.
