Microsoft Integrates Google's A2A for Seamless AI Collaboration

Microsoft has adopted Google's Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, a standard for enabling communication between AI agents. This integration will be available in Microsoft's Azure AI Foundry and Copilot Studio platforms.

By supporting A2A, Microsoft aims to create a more collaborative and interconnected AI ecosystem. This allows AI agents to work together across different platforms, applications, and cloud services.

The best agents won’t live in one app or cloud; they’ll operate in the flow of work, spanning models, domains, and ecosystems.

A2A enables AI agents to exchange information and initiate actions, fostering seamless collaboration. Developers gain access to interoperable components for secure agent interaction.

Enhanced Cross-Platform Functionality

With A2A support in Azure AI Foundry and Copilot Studio, Microsoft-built agents can leverage external agents for various tasks. This includes agents developed with other tools or hosted outside of Microsoft's ecosystem.

For example, a Microsoft agent could schedule a meeting, while a Google agent drafts the corresponding email invitations. This interoperability streamlines workflows and enhances productivity.

This adoption allows customers to build complex, multi-agent workflows that span internal agents, partner tools, and production infrastructure while maintaining governance and service-level agreements.

Microsoft's move aligns with the growing industry trend towards shared agent protocols, further solidifying the importance of interoperability in the AI landscape.

Growing Adoption of AI Agents

The increasing interest in AI agents underscores their potential to boost productivity. A recent KPMG survey revealed that 65% of companies are experimenting with AI agents. Markets and Markets projects significant growth in the AI agent segment, from $7.84 billion in 2025 to $52.62 billion by 2030.

Microsoft's support for A2A follows its integration of MCP, Anthropic's standard for connecting AI to data systems, in Copilot Studio. Other major AI model providers, including Google and OpenAI, have also adopted MCP.
