MoviePass Enters the Daily Fantasy Arena with Mogul

MoviePass, known for its innovative movie subscription service, is shaking up the entertainment world again with Mogul, a daily fantasy platform for film enthusiasts. The beta version is now live.

Mogul: How it Works

Inspired by daily fantasy sports, Mogul lets users act as virtual studio heads. With a set budget and in-game currency, players assemble a roster of actors. Performance is based on real-world metrics like box office numbers, audience turnout, critic reviews, and award wins.

Users can adjust their actor lineups daily and compete in week-long tournaments, one-on-one challenges, and solo competitions. As they progress, they earn digital collectibles, like signed posters, to boost their leaderboard ranking.

Mogul is built on the Sui blockchain, a platform developed by Mysten Labs. Beta testers receive a digital wallet to securely manage their in-game currency, rewards, and collectibles.

A Bold Move into a New Market

MoviePass is venturing into uncharted territory with Mogul. While initial skepticism questioned the platform's appeal, over 400,000 users have already joined the early-access waitlist, suggesting significant interest.

Initially described as a predictive market platform, Mogul is currently categorized as a daily fantasy platform, though future predictive market features are possible. For now, the platform operates solely with virtual currency.

People can name more actors than they can probably name sports athletes. So I think there’s a really big market opportunity there.

MoviePass's Web3 Strategy

Mogul represents the first step in MoviePass's broader web3 strategy. Backed by Animoca Brands, a blockchain-focused venture capital firm, MoviePass has previously expressed plans for on-chain rewards for movie attendance. Last year, MoviePass partnered with Sui to enable payments using USD coin.
