ServiceNow Acquires Data.World to Enhance AI Offerings

ServiceNow has announced its acquisition of Data.World, a cloud-native data catalog and governance platform. This marks ServiceNow's second AI-focused acquisition this year, following the purchase of Moveworks in March.

Data.World, based in Austin, Texas, helps enterprises organize and search their data. The acquisition will empower ServiceNow customers to prepare their data for AI initiatives.

Gaurav Rewari, SVP and GM of data analytics at ServiceNow, explained that Data.World's expertise in metadata management and data governance makes it a valuable addition to ServiceNow's portfolio. This acquisition addresses the challenge of preparing data for effective AI implementation.

As I like to say, this path to agentic AI heaven goes through some form of data hell, and that’s the grim reality.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Data.World's last valuation was $350 million during its 2022 Series C funding round.

ServiceNow plans to integrate Data.World's platform into its offerings, making it available to customers soon. This acquisition aligns with ServiceNow's strategy of building and acquiring AI capabilities to enhance its enterprise automation platform.

Second AI Acquisition This Year

This acquisition follows ServiceNow's $2.85 billion purchase of Moveworks, an enterprise automation and AI tools developer, in March. These strategic moves demonstrate ServiceNow's commitment to leveraging AI for improved workflow automation and data management.

These acquisitions reflect ServiceNow's three-pronged approach to AI development: building, buying, and partnering. The company aims to prioritize decisions that benefit its customers and differentiate its enterprise automation platform.
