Threads Launches on Threads.com with Updated Desktop UI

After acquiring the threads.com domain last September, Meta has announced the official migration of Threads from threads.net to threads.com. This week also sees the launch of new features enhancing the Threads desktop experience.

Improved Desktop Functionality

Threads' adoption of a TweetDeck-style column layout for its desktop version has proven effective, simplifying multi-topic tracking within the app. While this layout has been well-received, Threads now offers an alternative display.

The updated threads.com design mirrors the mobile app experience, placing topic feeds above the main feed. Users retain the ability to add columns for multi-stream tracking.

New Features for Enhanced Engagement

Accessing liked and saved posts is now streamlined through the main menu. A new pop-up composer, activated by the "+" button in the bottom right corner, allows in-stream post creation.

Users can now copy Threads posts as images for sharing on other platforms like Instagram (with proper attribution). The Threads team is also testing a feature to upload lists of followed profiles from other apps, making it easier to find familiar accounts on Threads.

Connecting with Your X (Twitter) Network

With X being a primary focus, Threads recently began testing an in-app option to import X follower data, simplifying the process of finding and following those same accounts on Threads.

Meta plans to extend this functionality to other social platforms, leveraging existing social graphs to enhance discovery on Threads. While not foolproof due to database discrepancies and manual upload requirements, this feature offers a valuable way to connect with existing audiences.

Threads Growth and Future Outlook

Threads continues its strong download momentum, projected to surpass 500 million users this year. These updates, aligned with evolving user behavior, position Threads as an increasingly functional and valuable networking platform.

While still trailing X (currently reporting 600 million users), Threads is steadily establishing itself as a key player in the social media landscape.
