Threads Officially Launches on Threads.com, Unveils Web App Updates
Meta's Threads, the Instagram-linked social network and X competitor, has officially migrated from Threads.net to Threads.com. This move brings several improvements to the Threads web app, enhancing user experience and functionality.
Originally launched in July 2023 on Threads.net due to the Threads.com domain being owned by another company, Meta later acquired the desired domain in September 2024. After a period of redirecting Threads.com to Threads.net, the transition is now complete, with Threads.net now redirecting to the more recognizable Threads.com.
This change provides Meta with a stronger online presence for its burgeoning social platform, which boasts over 320 million monthly active users as of January. The simpler domain name also positions Threads for better competition against its rival, X.
Web App Enhancements
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced several key updates to the Threads web app:
- Custom Feeds: Web app users will now see their custom feeds in the same order as the mobile app.
- Saved Posts and Likes: Accessing saved and liked posts is now easier through the main menu, eliminating the need for pinned columns.
- Copy as Image: Users can now copy Threads posts as images for easy sharing on other platforms like Instagram.
- Adding Columns: A new column icon on the right side of the screen simplifies adding columns.
- Simplified Posting: A "+" button in the bottom right corner opens a new window for composing posts.
- Following X Creators: A new feature (currently in testing) allows users to find and follow creators they previously followed on X by uploading their X data archive.

These updates aim to improve the web app experience, particularly for creators, and solidify Threads' position as a major player in the social media landscape.
