Threads Officially Launches on Threads.com with Web App Enhancements

Meta's Threads, the social networking platform and competitor to X (formerly Twitter), has officially transitioned to Threads.com from Threads.net. This move brings several improvements to the Threads web application.

Originally launched in July 2023 on Threads.net due to domain availability, Meta secured Threads.com in September 2024. After a period of redirecting Threads.com to Threads.net, the company has now reversed the process. Users visiting Threads.com will now directly access the platform, while those using Threads.net will be redirected.

This shift to the more recognizable Threads.com domain strengthens the platform's brand identity and online presence, particularly as it competes with X. Threads boasts over 320 million monthly active users, according to Meta's January earnings announcement.

Web App Improvements

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced several key updates to the Threads web app, focusing on user experience and functionality:

  • Custom Feeds: Web app users will now see their custom feeds in the same order as the mobile app.
  • Saved Posts and Likes: Access to saved and liked posts is now available directly from the main menu.
  • Post Copying: Users can now copy Threads posts as images for easy sharing on other platforms like Instagram.
  • Column Management: Adding new columns is simplified with a new column icon on the right side of the screen.
  • Simplified Posting: A "+" button in the bottom right corner opens a new window for composing posts.
  • X Importer (Beta): A feature allowing users to find and follow creators they followed on X is currently in testing. This involves uploading an archive of X data to Threads.

These updates aim to improve the web app experience, particularly for creators who often utilize this platform. The move to Threads.com and the accompanying web app enhancements signal Meta's continued investment in and commitment to the growth of Threads.
