CryptoPunks NFT Collection Acquired by NODE Foundation

Yuga Labs, the creators of the renowned Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, has sold its iconic CryptoPunks to the non-profit NODE Foundation. NODE focuses on the preservation and promotion of digital art.

The details of the sale remain undisclosed, and representatives from both organizations have declined to comment on the terms. This follows NODE's April announcement of a $25 million grant from investor Micky Malka and Becky Kleiner to "build the future of digital art." Malka currently serves as the foundation's chair.

Yuga Labs and the CryptoPunks Legacy

Yuga Labs acquired CryptoPunks from Larva Labs in 2022 during the peak of the NFT boom. This period saw numerous NFTs sell for millions of dollars. According to the CryptoPunks website, the highest sale price for a single CryptoPunk NFT reached nearly $24 million worth of cryptocurrency.

The NFT market has cooled significantly since then. Malka stated that CryptoPunks "sparked a cultural movement," and NODE's goal is to "future-proof this landmark work." The foundation aims to increase public access and engagement with these influential pieces of digital art.
