DoorDash Seeks Dismissal of Uber's Anti-Competitive Lawsuit
DoorDash has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Uber in a California Superior Court. Uber alleges DoorDash uses anti-competitive tactics, including pressuring restaurants into exclusive deals.
DoorDash argues Uber's claims are baseless. In a statement, DoorDash called the lawsuit a "cynical and calculated scare tactic" from a competitor trying to avoid fair competition. The company insists it competes "fiercely yet fairly" and provides excellent value to restaurants.
A hearing is scheduled for July 11 in San Francisco County Superior Court.
Uber's Allegations and Response
Uber's February lawsuit accuses DoorDash, the U.S. food delivery market leader, of threatening restaurants with substantial penalties or downgraded app placement if they don't agree to exclusive partnerships.
When restaurants are forced to choose between unfair terms or retaliation, that’s not competition — it’s coercion. Uber will continue to stand up for merchants and for a level playing field. We look forward to presenting the facts in court.
This statement was Uber's response to DoorDash's dismissal request, emphasizing their commitment to fair competition for restaurants.
Uber has requested a jury trial but hasn't specified the damages sought.
Separate Acquisition Offer
In other news, Deliveroo confirmed DoorDash offered to acquire the European food delivery company for $3.6 billion.
