Meta Rolls Out New Updates for Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
Meta has announced exciting new updates for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, enhancing their functionality with improved AI chat capabilities, expanded live language translation, Instagram integration, and more.
Live Language Translation
The live translation feature, which provides real-time spoken language translation directly to the wearer's ear, is now available to all users. This feature supports English, French, Italian, and Spanish, and works offline if the language pack is downloaded in advance.
Whether you're traveling to a new country and need to ask for directions or spending time with a family member and need to break the language barrier, you can hold seamless conversations.
This functionality makes the glasses a practical tool for travelers and anyone who interacts with people speaking different languages.
Instagram Integration
Users can now receive Instagram direct messages, audio calls, and video calls directly through their glasses. Sharing photos to Instagram is also supported.
This joins being able to make calls and send messages through WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as the native messaging app on your iPhone or Android phone. Just say, "Hey Meta, send a message to Lisa on Instagram."
Expanded Music Integration
Meta is expanding access to music integrations with Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam for users outside the U.S. and Canada.
Enhanced Meta AI Features
Meta AI features are now being rolled out to EU audiences. The Live AI functionality allows users to have conversations with Meta's AI chatbot, which can even "see" what the wearer sees through the glasses. This feature is becoming more conversational and intuitive.
In the middle of cooking dinner and don't have as much butter as you thought? Ask Meta AI to see if there's a substitute based on what it sees in your pantry or refrigerator. And follow it up by asking which wine in your rack pairs best with the meal. Just say, "Hey Meta, start live AI" to begin.
Growing Momentum and Future Plans
Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses have sold over a million pairs last year. The addition of features like live translation and AI chat enhances their practicality, making them an increasingly appealing option for consumers.
Meta is also developing additional versions of the glasses for various purposes and is working on fully AR-enabled glasses, scheduled for release in 2027.
With Mark Zuckerberg predicting that smart glasses will eventually replace phones as the primary connective device, we can expect to see many more updates and advancements in this area.
