Uber Expands Robotaxi Service with Momenta Partnership

Uber is partnering with Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta to launch a robotaxi service in Europe. The service is expected to begin in early 2026 with safety operators onboard.

This collaboration follows Uber's recent partnerships with other autonomous vehicle companies, including May Mobility, Volkswagen, Waymo, Wayve, and WeRide. Uber is leveraging its ride-hailing platform while relying on partners for self-driving technology.

Momenta's Technology to Power European Expansion

Momenta CEO Xudong Cao stated this partnership "completes the key ecosystem needed to scale autonomous driving globally." The collaboration will initially focus on the European market.

Uber's strategy of partnering with various AV companies contrasts with Tesla's approach of developing its own self-driving technology. Tesla plans to launch its robotaxi service this summer.

Uber's Shift to Partnerships

Uber previously had its own self-driving unit but sold it to Aurora Innovation in 2020. The company now focuses on partnerships to expand its autonomous vehicle offerings.

This latest partnership with Momenta reinforces Uber's commitment to expanding its robotaxi services globally through strategic collaborations.
