X (Twitter) Experiencing Widespread Outages
X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is currently experiencing widespread outages. Many users are reporting that their timelines and notifications have stopped updating.
The issue began Thursday night, with timelines freezing for a significant number of users. Many also report that notifications are not working, preventing them from seeing new posts. The problem appears to affect both the X mobile apps and the web version.
Server-Side Bug Suspected
The outage seems to be caused by a server-side bug. Switching devices, browsers, or subscribing to X Premium does not resolve the issue. Reports on Downdetector show a significant spike in X outage reports over the past 24 hours.
Numerous threads on Reddit also confirm the widespread nature of the problem. Users are sharing their experiences and troubleshooting attempts, with no apparent solution.
“No notifications since about 10 p.m. last night here in Germany!” wrote one Reddit user.
“I thought that uninstalling and reinstalling the app would work (it didn’t),” another user commented.
X has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Previous Outages
This is not the first time X has faced significant outages. A major outage occurred in March 2025, affecting users worldwide. Previous large-scale connectivity issues were also reported in December 2022 and July 2023.
Following Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, the company underwent significant workforce reductions. This has led to speculation about the platform's stability and engineering capacity.
